A familiar face on Dubai’s pop-up food circuit, Maiz Tacos set up a permanent location in JLT last year, one of the city’s best and most diverse hubs for independent restaurants and cafés. It’s a minimalist space – one not unlike certain Mexican eateries to have come before it, with birch-hued benches and neon signs on its pastel walls. And if you love tacos, which is probably why you’re visiting, there are heaps to choose from including the slow-roasted chicken and pickled onions in the pollo asado, El Jefe – a six-hour marinated pulled Angus chuck with chimichurri or the battered fish versions. There are also veggie and vegan options as well as bowls, and, of course, guac.
