An easy but interesting project for kids is experimenting with watercolors to create fascinating effects. One of these effects is the starburst effect, which may be created by using lemon juice and salt. In this activity, participants will observe how watercolor reacts to elements added onto it. The salt soaks up the paint, while lemon bleaches out the color underneath. Participants will cut out the large watercolor paper into small pieces, and either add strings to make a bookmark, or put the pieces together to make a watercolor collage.
